WORCESTER, Mass. – Lexington, Bunker Hill, Antietam, Meuse-Argonne, Ardennes; these are the names of some of the most important battles in American history. They are a reminder of our nations past.
In the military, a unit remembers the battles or campaigns it served in by stitching the name of the campaign on a streamer and then attaching it to the guidon or flag. The streamers serve as symbols of the unit’s lineage; reminders that they “were there.”
In a ceremony at the Massachusetts National Guard Museum here, 27 campaign streamers were added to the 125th Quartermaster Company’s guidon Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, stating that they “were there.”

Thirty Civil War re-enactors from Company F of the 13th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry will camp out in front of Westborough High School on Sept. 24 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.
"These are very professional re-enactors," Carry Mulrain, president of the Westborough Historical Society, told the School Committee last night. "Some will be in costumes and will hold drilling ceremonies, musket firings and a women's sewing circle."
Mulrain said during the Civil War, women in Westborough met regularly to sew bandages and clothing to send to Union soldiers.
The free event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
